Chris Mainwaring

Chris Mainwaring (born December 27, 1965) is a former Australian rules footballer in the VFL/AFL who played for the West Coast Eagles.

Mainwaring started his career at the East Fremantle Football Club in the WAFL, where he represented Western Australia in State of Origin and played for a premiership team in 1985, his first season.

When the West Coast Eagles were established in 1987 as a new team in the then-VFL, he became a wingman and contributed greatly to their success. He played 201 games for the Eagles between 1987 and 1994, kicking 84 goals, retiring at the end of the 1999 season.

He was an All-Australian in 1991 and 1996.

In 1997 Mainwaring suffered a knee injury, requiring a knee reconstruction and putting him out of action for the rest of that season. While he was attempting to return to form following this injury, in 1998 he played for East Fremantle Football Club before making his return to the West Coast side late in the year. After another season in which he was in and out of the Eagles side (and playing for East Fremantle), he retired from AFL football and went on to play with the Sharks for another season in 2000 before calling it a day for good.

Since retiring from football Mainwaring has taken an active roll in the media. He currently reads the weekend sport on Seven News Perth as well as reporting during the week. He also reads the sport headlines during the news on Perth radio station Mix 94.5 from 5:30-9:00 AM during Botica's Bunch.
