Chris Beattie (born 20 March 1985 in Sunderland) is an English actor.
[edit] Biography
Beattie's first and currently only feature film was Purely Belter. He began acting at an early age and has studied the acting craft in several drama schools including the National Youth Music Theatre. His first acting performance was in the children's television series Byker Grove, as the character Joe Dakin (Season 13+). His breakthrough role should have been that of troubled teen Gerry McCarten in Mark Herman’s 2000 film Purely Belter; however, the film was overshadowed by the release of Billy Elliot in the same year. Beattie was nominated in the "Best Newcomer (on-screen)" category for the British Independent Film Awards in 2000, which was won by Jamie Bell.
Beattie has since appeared in a number of productions including the Berlin 48hr film challenge with fellow Sunderland born actor Jay Mullen. Beattie is currently on a national theatre tour.
Although the film Purely Belter centres around his character's love of Newcastle United football club, Beattie is in reality an avid Sunderland fan.
