Chrétien Le Clercq

Father Chrétien Le Clercq was a Roman Catholic missionary to the Mi'kmaq on the Gaspé peninsula in the mid-1600s. He adapted an apparently native mnemonic glyph system into a writing system known as Míkmaq hieroglyphic writing.
