Talk:Choli

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I rewrote. I could expand, now that I have Chantal Boulanger's book. Pictures desperately needed! Zora 07:14, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

Also, need non-Hindi words for choli. Maybe from sari article? Someone pointed out that I am Hindi-centric and it's unfortunately true. Let's make this inclusive of ALL women who wear cholis. I think choli is now an English word (I see it in books and online shops) but the article should let readers know that it is not called choli all over India. Zora 05:22, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

Hindugal 13:35, 4 November 2006 (UTC) I have added two pictures with proper attribution. Administrator, please don't remove them. One of the pictures is freely available in brochures of the product. The site looks much better now; earlier it was bland.

[edit] Pattern for backless choli

Someone added a note re belly dancers wearing cholis. I rewrote it. As to the link the new editor added -- the link shows people how to sew their own backless cholis, which is good, but it also includes a very low-key ad for pre-sewn cholis. Usually we don't accept any commercial links. I hate to throw out this one, but if we leave it, then other would-be commercial advertisers are going to cry foul. Perhaps we can ask the website owner to redo the page and leave off the ad? Zora 20:41, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Historical picture

I looked more closely at that "historical picture" and it doesn't seem that either of the women pictured are wearing cholis. They seem to be nude from the waist up. Notice nipples! The face of the reclining woman doesn't look Indian ... I wonder if this was a "spicy" print made to be sold to British soldiers and administrators. I don't think it's an appropriate illustration. I'm going to replace it with another one. Zora 21:48, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
