Chorlton-cum-Hardy railway station

Chorlton-cum-Hardy railway station was a station on the Midland Railway between Manchester Central and Stockport. It served the Manchester suburb of Chorlton-cum-Hardy. The station opened in 1880 and closed in 1967, though the line remained opened to freight until the 1980s. There is a proposal to extend Manchester Metrolink through Chorlton-cum-Hardy, though whether this would use the site of the original station is unknown.
In 1964 the station was immortalised in the song "Slow Train" by Flanders and Swann.
The station has since been demolished and in its place stands a Morrison's Supermarket and car-park. The old track-way still exists to the side of the supermarket. The trackway leaving the site heading towards the old Fallowfield Station is now a cyclepath managed by Sustrans. However, the proposed Metrolink extension would consume a lot of this.
