Choptank, Maryland

Choptank, Maryland, is a town on the eastern shore of Maryland, USA, in Caroline County. The town was founded in the 17th century. It is also a river running into the Chesapeake Bay. Tradition has it that the name "choptank" was a crude anglization of the Indian name for the river, probably in the Nanticoke language.
