I don't think we should be using Jyutping as the standard for all Cantonese romanization since the system is only commonly used in Hong Kong. The Yale romanization system is more popular in the west, and its system of Cantonese romanization is more "intuitive" to people who are used to English spelling. For example, many English speakers would think to pronounce the "j" as in "joe", and the double letters "yu" represent a single rounded vowel sound. A typical westerner (or even Cantonese in America and Canada) would probably come closer to the correct pronunciation from reading the Yale than from Jyutping. For articles relating to Cantonese in the United States or Canada IPA and Yale instead is preferable. For Guangdong perhaps IPA and the Guangdong gov't romanization can be used. --Yuje 12:54, August 11, 2005 (UTC)

Frankly Jyutping is not even commonly used in Hong Kong. :-) Am not sure if the official romanisation system of Guangdong is actually in used nowadays. — Instantnood 13:50, August 11, 2005 (UTC)

And since Cantonese isn't official in Canton, neither are any Cantonese romanization systems, but whoever wrote the article says language-related gov't publications there use that system.--Yuje 14:00, August 11, 2005 (UTC)

The Guangdong Romanisation article says " it is still used in certain publications, particularly in works released in the People's Republic of China regarding Cantonese ". — Instantnood 14:16, August 11, 2005 (UTC)
