This illustration is from "The Joy of Chinese Cooking" written and illustrated by Doreen Yen Hung Feng, published circa 1950 without any copyright notice at all. Therefore, I believe this drawing, found at page 192, to be in the public domain.
The drawing illustrates the book's section on the holiday "Ching Ming" (Qing Ming Jie), with the caption, "Comforts rising to the spirit world in the form of smoke."
