Chitlapakkam is a panchayat town in Kancheepuram district in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. It is a residential township located south of Chennai. It is famous for its small lake and adjoining ecosystems. Chitlapakkam has the highest water table level in Chennai and is probably the only place in Chennai not yet plagued by water scarcity. Part of this has been due to the conservation efforts of the residents here.
Chitlapakkam can be said to be a "leafy" and "breezy" suburb offering a healthy and tranquil environment. This has been one of the suburbs which has witnessed the highest appreciation in land values in recent times. Infact a ground here costs more than Rs. 35 lakhs.
Chitlapakkam offers the joy of living in a suburb coupled with the proximity to the big city. For instance T.Nagar the heart of Chennai is just 40 minutes drive away ! Again Tambaram is just 15 minutes drive away.Similarly the IT super highway is 9 km away . Tambaram Sanatorium railway station is nearby which connects you to the beach railway station to chengalpattu railwaystation. This developing township is located in such a way that all the major suburbs viz. Pallavaram, Chromepet, Selaiyur, Tambaram Sanatorium, Tambaram, etc. can be reached within 10 minutes no matter where you are.
The famed Kumaran Kundram temple of Lord Muruga atop the hill is a 15 minutes walk from here. The Chitlapakkam Lake which has water almost all throughout the year is all set to be modernized with boating facilities.

As of 2001 India censusGRIndia, Chitlapakkam had a population of 25,292. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Chitlapakkam has an average literacy rate of 84%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with male literacy of 86% and female literacy of 82%. 9% of the population is under 6 years of age.
