Chith Vihar is the building that houses Computer Science & Engineering Division of SASTRA and is the main computer hub of the SASTRA campus.The Chit Vihar occupies an area of 1871 sq. meters and houses a Computer Centre with over 300 computers. Microprocessor kits and the associated hardware are available in the Microprocessor Laboratory. The centre has the latest software and Operating Systems. The centre provides individual terminals to each student and the laboratory is kept open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on all working days. The centre is open all the 24 hours on holidays. A 1 Mbit/s dedicated clean bandwidth Internet line is available on a networked environment. The Division houses a separate laboratory for real-time project development. The unique feature here is that the systems administration and management are done by the students themselves. Facilities like unlimited access to the internet, latest software and online help make it an ideal place for project development. Research projects on OCR,Natural Language Processing,Expert System, Image Recognition,VOIP and Internet Telephony are done here.

Classes for 2nd,3rd and 4th year of B.Tech Computer Science and Engineering are conducted here.the enough number of classrooms are available for students. there are also two lecture halls in this building which is well equipped with mounted high resolution projector.

[edit] Advanced Programming Lab
This lab is equipped with 40 IBM Netvista Pentium IV workstations. Each system is configured with 128 MB SDRAM, 40 GB HDD & 52x CD ROM drive and 15”color monitor. This lab is utilized by the Final year B.E/B.Tech students and M.Tech students for doing their project work. Software such as Microsoft Visual Studio-6,Oracle,Java,Visual studio.net are available in all the systems with Multimedia and Internet facilities. Operating systems such as Windows 2000 Server, Windows 2000 professional and Redhat Linux 8.0 are used as platform for students projects. All the users’ and their storage requirements are managed by Windows 2000 server and Linux server.

This lab is equipped with 26 P III workstations. Each system configured with 128 MB SDRAM, 20 GB HDD, CDROM drive with color monitor.Another 24 PCs are dedicated to free Internet access round the clock. Labs such as Internet Programming, Network programming, RDBMS, Visual Programming, Computer Graphics, System software etc. are being conducted here.Software such as Microsoft Office, Turbo C++, FoxPro, Qbasic, FORTRAN, Design CAD, Visual studio and Oracle, Developer 2000 are available in all systems with multimedia facilities.One dedicated Solaris server has been used as back end server for the Oracle.
[edit] MICROPROCESSOR LAB
This lab is equipped with 40 PCs and PC based interfaces to do interfacing experiments. Interfaces such as in circuit Emulators, stepper motor, Traffic controller, ADCs, DACs, are available. Various 8 bit and 16 bit trainer kits for the popular Microprocessors 8085/8086/8088/68000, DSP trainer kits and Microcontroller trainer kits are also available to train the students in Assembly language programming and PC interfacing. SMPS trainer, Printer trainer, CPU trainer modules are being used to handle Computer hardware lab experiments.
