Chislehurst and Sidcup Grammar School is a mixed gender grammar school located in Hurst Road, Sidcup in the London Borough of Bexley, United Kingdom. The school is well known in the local area for its distinctive purple blazers and reputation for high standards of education. In the 1960's the school was ranked third in the country.

[edit] History

The school was founded as an all boys grammar school in the 1930s. It then moved to differant locations twice before staying in it's current place in 1954. As a grammar school, it only allowed pupils who passed their Eleven Plus exams, and therefore commanded high achieving results. In the 1960s, it was ranked as the 3rd school in the country in the league tables. It later became a mixed school for both genders.

In recent years standards have slipped, the school was for a period of time not top of the local league tables and moves were made in the sports area. The school gained a Sports College status which is a boost to the grammar schools of Bexley since no other schools have sports college status which are sports colleges. In 2005, Dr J. Vitagliano took over the position of headmaster, introducing tougher penalties and increasing grade boundaries. The 2005/6 GCSE Results though brought the school up the league tables with nearly 98% of the school getting passes.

In 2004, a Jubillee sports pavillion was built. In the near future a new art & technology block will be completed, and named after Quentin Blake, a former pupil at the school.
