Chiny

Chiny is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Luxembourg and the Gaume region. On January 1st, 2006 Chiny had a total population of 5,013. The total area is 113.69 km² which gives a population density of 44 inhabitants per km².
Chiny is located in the south of the French-speaking region. The municipality is on the boundary between the region of Gaume and the Ardennes.
Six villages are in the municipality of Chiny :
- Chiny
- Izel
- Jamoigne
- Les Bulles
- Suxy
- Termes
The blazon of the municipality is: azur three fish argent surmounted by a crown or (three silver fish and a golden crown on a blue field).
On a historical perspective, Chiny is an old county and was larger than the current municipality.
"Chiny" is also the Polish word for "China".
