As of 2001 India censusGRIndia, Chinnalapatti had a population of 23,353. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Chinnalapatti has an average literacy rate of 76%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with male literacy of 84% and female literacy of 67%. 9% of the population is under 6 years of age. Recently "AUTOGRAPH", a movie by director CHERAN was taken here, which made chinnalapatti more popular

Chinnalapatti is situated in dindigul district on the south-central part of TamilNadu. It is well connected by road and rail network.

Chinnalapatti's economy mainly depending on handloom weaving industry. Handloom weaving is chinalapatti's largest and oldest industry. Weaving has been a way of life in Chinalapatti since time immemorial. Now people are producing Cotton (sungudi) saris with Zari borders, these are ideal for daily wear. Cotton (sungudi) saree industry contains dyeing, printing units. Sungudi industry is providing livelihood for nearly 50,000 people in chinnalapatti.
