The China Times Eagles(時報鷹) was a defunct professional baseball team belonging to the Chinese Professional Baseball League(CPBL) and existed between 1993 and 1997.
[edit] History
Originally formed as an amateur club Black Eagles in 1990, this club was purchased by the China Times Corporation in November 1991 and professionalized in 1992 after absorbing a group of players from the Taiwan national baseball team who just won silver medal in the 1992 Summer Olympics, like its sister team Jungo Bears. This club took Kaohsiung Lee-Der Baseball Stadium(高雄市立立德棒球場, the Chengching Lake Baseball Field was not built at that time) and Pingtung Baseball Field as its home throughout its history.
Between 1993 and 1996 this club performed only moderately, but gained significant popularity due to China Times's fine administration and media advantage. In the upper half of 1997 this club won its first historical CPBL half-season championship, but was also badly wounded during the first CPBL game-fixing scandal[1]. The club was later defeated by the Wei Chuan Dragons in the 1997 CPBL Championships and disbanded after the series. Most former China Eagles players currently coach local Youth or Little League baseball teams[2].
