India & China decided to earmark the year 2006 as China-India Friendship Year.

- Exchange of messages between Presidents, Prime Ministers and Foreign Ministers on January 1st to commemorate the Friendship Year
- Exchange of high-level visits
- Commemorative receptions to be respectively hosted by the two Ambassadors in each other's country
- New recommendations to promote bilateral relations to be proposed by the 5th meeting of Eminent Persons Group (EPG) in India
- Publication of major China-India bilateral agreements and MOUs on the eve of April 1st
Defence Exchanges
- Visit of Indian Defence Minister to China and signing of the Proposed MOU between the two Defence Ministries
- Continuation of defence exchanges at various levels
- Trans-border interactive visits and sporting activities between the two Armies
Economic and Trade Fields
- High-level business seminar to be held in China and India jointly organized by CCPIT from the Chinese side and FICCI/CII from the Indian side
- Striving for operationalisation of border trade through Nathula Pass within the year of 2006
- "Made in India" Show in China
- Indian fashion show in China
Culture and Tourism
- Visit of India's Minister of Culture to China
- Visit of Chinese Government cultural delegation to India and signing of China-India Cultural Exchange Program for 2006-2008
- Inauguration of the Indian-style Buddhist temple in Luoyang
- Opening or inauguration ceremony of the Xuan Zang Memorial in Nalanda
- Reciprocal hosting of film festivals in each other's country and encouraging the joint production of films
- Academic seminar on "China-India Cultural Exchanges" to be organized by China Institute of International Studies (CIIS) or the Center for India Studies in Peking University with its Indian counterpart
- Mutual translation of literary classics
- Friendly exchanges of sporting activities
- Participation of Liaoning Peking Opera Troupe in India's National Opera Festival
- "Shanxi Culture Week" in India
- A TV documentary series named "Along the Footprints of Xuan Zang" to be produced by CCTV
- Visits of Indian Classical Dance Troupes to China (Bharatnatyam/Kathak/odissi)

- A workshop in India on education cooperation by major universities of both sides
- Signing and operationalisation of MOU on China-India Steering Committee on S&T Cooperation during the proposed visit of MOS(S&T) to China
- Exhibition of practical patented technology from India
Others
- Exchange of visits of youth delegations
- Release of commemorative first-day covers or joint issue of stamps
- Establishment of friendship cities between the relevant cities of both countries
- The book "Dr.Kotnis and Me" written by Mrs. Kotnis (Mme. Guo Qinglan) to be translated and published in India
