Chimbudeven is an Indian film director.
[edit] Early career
Born in Madurai, Chimbu was the second child of Mr. Venkataraman and Mrs. Thiravium Venkataraman. His father worked in the telegraph office as an overseer. Chimbudeven has a bachelor degree in botany from Madurai Kamaraj University. Chimbu was ranked first in Tamil Nadu State for the Student Editor Scheme competition held by Ananda Vikatan during his final year in university. He edited a magazine called "Cimbut Paravai" at that time. Chimbu accepted a job offered by Ananda Vikatan where he started work as a cartoonist/journalist and subeditor.
He was a writer and cartoonist on the comic Keemovil Somu which included a time machine in which the character Somu had adventures in the past and future. Among his various cartoon characters was Imsai Arasan 23am Pulikesi which was the subject of one of his films later.

Chimbu then worked as an assistant director to the film maker Cheran. His first film as an assistant was Vetri Kodi Kattu. He went on to work two more films Pandavar Bhoomi and Autograph under Cheran's guidance. He also worked as a co-director to Murugadoss's Dheena and Ramana.
Chimbu got his first break in films under Director S. Shankar's S Pictures. The movie Imsai Arasan 23am Pulikesi, the first historical comedy in Indian cinema opened at No:1 in Chennai Box Office. The movie starred comedian Vadivelu in the lead and was well supported by veterans like Nasser and Manorama.
