In 1896, the Norfolk City Union of The King's Daughters was formed to provide medical care for indigent mothers and their children. They established a free clinic and visiting nurse service and in 1961 built The King’s Daughters’ Children’s Hospital, with 88 beds and a variety of services. In 1979, the name was changed to Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters.
