Chikuma Koshirou
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Chikuma Koshirō (japanese: 筑摩 小四郎, hiragana: ちくま こしろう, rōmaji: Chikuma Koshirou) a character featured in the Japanese anime Basilisk Kouga Ninpou Chou (known in English as Kouga Ninja Scrolls). Koshirou was chosen to be one of ten ninja of the Iga Tsubagakure clan to fight against the chosen ten of the opposing Koga Manjidani clan.
Koshirou's technique enables him to create miniature tornadoes with his breath which suck enemies in and shreds them to pieces. He also wields a pair of kama hand scythes which he is able to use either in close combat or even throw like boomerangs. After being blinded by Kouga Gennosuke his other senses adapt and grant him sonar-like hearing similar to Muroga Hyouma.
Koushiro vows to protect Oboro at all costs, and may even have romantic feelings for her. On the other hand, as Yakushiji Tenzen's apprentice, he's honor bound to follow his sensei's orders, regardless of how he personally feels. He's also the love intrest of Oboro's guard and best friend, Akeginu.
It should also be noted that the anime and manga depict him in different ways. In the manga, Koshirou seems to share Tenzen's sheer ruthlessness in combat while the anime depicts him as being more reluctant to fight any battle where his opponents would suffer an overwhelming disadvantage, prompting Tenzen to lecture him on how chivalry has no place in a war between ninja.
[edit] Battles
spoilers ahead
Koshirou VS Shogen: The first battle Koshirou fought in. Along with Rousai, Nenki, and Hotarubi, Koshirou was sent by Tenzen to intercept Kazamachi Shogen and take the Koga's copy of the battle scroll. Early in the fight, Shogen shoots his glue onto Koshirou's mouth, preventing him from using his tornado power. Koshirou later finds himself caught in a net woven from Shogen's glue along with Rousai and Nenki. Fotunetely for them, Hotarubi managed to escape being caught and distracts Shogen with her butterfly swarm, allowing Nenki to finish him off with one of Koshirou's scythes.
Koshirou VS Gennosuke: Following the first appearance of Gennosuke's doujutsu technique, Yakushiji Tenzen came to the conclusion that only Koshirou could defeat Gennosuke (this was due to the fact that you had to look into the eyes of Gennosuke as to be one with the effect). In the end however, Koshiro's technique is interrupted by Oboro, who used her eyes of ruin to keep Koushirou from killing Gennosuke. Gennosuke then unleashes his doujutsu, causing Koshiro to create a vacuum in front of himself, destroying his eyes and blinding him completely.
Koshirou VS Hyoma: This was more of a short battle to some extent. Throughout this battle, Hyoma could not use his doujutsu technique, due to the fact that Koshirou was blind and couldn't be influenced. After a few bouts between Hyoma and Koshirou, Hyoma, knowing the weakness of the recently blind Koshirou, tosses an object into the field. Koshirou, hearing the sound of it falling, throws his weapons at it.
Hyoma moves in for the kill, but fails to realize that Koshirou's scythes return when thrown, and is forced to defend himself against the returning blade. Koshirou hears the sound of Hyoma knocking aside the scythe and performs his whirlwind technique, killing Hyoma.
Koshirou VS Kagerou: This was an even shorter "battle", if it could even be called that. After defeating Hyoma, Kagerou and Saemon appear next to him. Saemon assumes the voice of Koshirou's teammate Akeginu, and tells Koshirou that Princess Oboro has been killed. This seriously distracts Koshirou and Kagerou, pressing herself up against him, allows herself to become sexually aroused and poisons Koshirou to death. This will push the true Akeginu, who was in love with Koshirou, further into the war with the Koga, wishing to avenge him.
[edit] Alternate Information
Koshirou was in the live-action movie Shinobi: Heart under Blade as a character. There are some differences such as he has a beard and he does not use either sickles or his kamaitachi technique. Instead he wields small throwing rods and a pair of kunai attached to chains.
