Chikballapur is medium sized town in the Kolar district of Karnataka state, India. It is also the taluk headquarters. Because of its strategic location, being the nerve centre of the towns of north and east Kolar, it is slated to be made a district like Kolar. The famous hill station of Nandi Hills is situated nearby and within the jurisdiction of Chikballapur taluk. The national highway NH 7 passes through Chikballapur. The eminent engineer and statesman Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvarayya was born in Muddenahalli, about 3 km. from Chikballapur. Many historic temples are situated in and near this town. There are many educational institutions are situated in Chikballapur. Sri Bhagavan Sathya Saibaba's school and college are about 3 km. from Chikballapur.
