Chifeng

Chifeng (Chinese 赤峰, Pinyin Chìfēng, Wade-Giles Ch'ih-fêng; lit.: red peak; modern Mongolian: Ulanhad; classical Mongolian: ulaγan kada) is a prefecture-level city in the southeast part of Inner Mongolia, near the borders of Chaoyang prefecture in Liaoning province and Chengde prefecture in Hebei. It can be located on a map at 42 degrees, 16 minutes North latitude and 118 degrees 57 minutes East longitude. It has roughly 479,300 inhabitiants, according to January 2002 estimates. The city itself has an estimated population of 356,805 in 2006.
It was formerly the seat of the Roman Catholic diocese of Chifeng.
