Chichester High School For Boys
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Chichester High School for Boys is an comprehensive school for boys aged 11-18 in the city of Chichester, West Sussex. It is within the remit of the West Sussex Local Education Authority. It was formed in 1971 by the amalgamation of two well established schools: The Lancastrian Secondary School for Boys and the High School for Boys. The sixth form is combined with that of Chichester High School for Girls.
Recently, the school has benefited from a considerable building programme including: a purpose built specialist Science Block, a new Learning Resources Centre, a new administrative and reception area and the synthetic Astroturf pitch has been refurbished. The sixth form centre has been extended to accommodate sixth formers previously based on the, now defunct, Chichester High School for Girls Upper School site. A new sports hall has also been erected which is also being used a dance hall for the Girls school. The South Downs Planetarium, supported by Sir Patrick Moore, a local resident, was opened on the site on 5th April 2002.
The school has recently had a bad Ofsted report ([1]) and is subsequently in threat of going into "special measures" the reasons for this are many but are mainly due to the fact that the school has no selection procedure, instead, basing selection on a catchment area.
The school is turning itself around and the punishments are being tightened and tolerance lowered, problem teachers have been removed and a new headteacher has taken charge. All this should stop the school from going into special measures.
