Chişinău International Airport (IATA: KIV, ICAO: LUKK) is a smaller airport in Chişinău, Moldova in Eastern Europe. The airport has a capacity of 1,200,000 passengers per year. It was built in the 1970s. It has one runway and is open 24 hours.
As there is no Cat II or III system, fog can temporarily disrupt flights in winter (e.g. in December).

[edit] Airlines and destinations
In January 2004, five national companies were involved in passenger air transportation, namely: Air Moldova, Moldavian Airlines, Tandem Aero, Aeriantur-M and Vichi, in total having carried 19,033 passengers, which represents 72% of the total number of passengers carried.
Nobil Air and TEPavia-Trans are air taxi companies located in Chisinau. Nobil Air operates a Learjet 35a (ER-LGA), TET operates an Antonov 28 air plane (ER-AKO).
Among the national air companies, the biggest share of passenger transport market is held by the state airline Air Moldova, with 55% or 14,761 passengers carried, followed by Moldavian Airlines with 13% or 3,464 passengers, the rest of national companies taking only 3% of the total number of passengers.
Besides national companies, a number of foreign airlines have been active on the passenger air transport market. These include Turkish Airlines, Austrian Airlines, Tarom, Carpatair and MALEV Hungarian. Such foreign airlines have carried 7,425 passengers, which represent 28% of the total passenger traffic. The largest share of transports was held by Carpatair with 9.2% or 2,458 passengers, Turkish Airlines with 8.4% or 2,243 passengers and Austrian Airlines with 5.9% or 1,568 passengers.
At present, both national and foreign airlines perform scheduled flights on eightteen routes:
- Air Moldova (Athens, Bucharest, Frankfurt, Istanbul, Larnaca, Lisbon, Moscow-Domodedovo, Paris (starts December 12,2006), Prague, Rome-Fiumicino, Vienna) 42 flights per week
- Austrian Airlines (Vienna) 7 flights per week
- Carpatair (Timişoara) operated by Moldavian Airlines
- Moldavian Airlines (Budapest, Timişoara) 20 flights per week
- Tandem Aero (Kiev-Borispol, Tel Aviv) 2 flights per week
- Tarom (Bucharest-Otopeni) 4 flights per week
- Turkish Airlines (Istanbul-Atatürk) 5 flights per week
During the summer there are regular charter flights to Antalya, Sharm el Sheik and Varna.

Just over 480,000 passengers were served in 2005, or roughly 15% more than in 2004. 251,800 of them flew Air Moldova, 91,200 Moldavian Airlines and other local airlines and 140,000 foreign airlines.
In the first nine months of 2006 327,300 passengers were served at the airport. This is an increase of 19.2% compared to 2005.
The busiest routes (January 2004) were: Chişinău - Istanbul, with 5,563 passengers carried (+8,4% compared to January 2003) Chişinău - Moscow with 4,357 passengers transported (+45,4% compared to January 2003). The number of passengers Chişinău - Lisbon with 637 passengers (+246% compared to December 2003)
Cargo and mail transported in January 2004 constituted 84.6 tons. In the first nine months of 2006 670 tons air freight were transported which is an increase of 21,8%.

Following reconstruction work by the Turkish company Akfen Holding A.S. and re-opening in May 2000 it became a modern airport in Europe and in the Commonwealth of Independent States.
An annex terminal building with an area of 4,270 m² was added to the renovated present terminal building of 7,600 m². The project covers construction of 3,000 m² curtain walls, 3,200 m² composite panels, 12,185 m² asphalt road, a treatment plant with a capacity of 3,450 m³/day, complete mechanical heating, ventilation and electrical systems along with the X-ray security, luggage handling, master clock, and flight information systems. The contract had a commercial value of USD 9.3 million.

The visitors terrace in the second floor has been opened in December 2006.
VIP and CIP guests are offered special services at the VIP terminal.

[edit] To and from the airport
There are some bus lines and mini busses (rutiera) to the airport (aerogara).
Taxis drive in 15-25 minutes to the airport. They charge between 60 Lei and 20 USD. It is advisable to agree beforehand.
Arriving passengers can find authorized taxi (yellow cars, 1407) at the last exit door.
The airport is located at the mainway to the south.
