[edit] Date formatting

Hi there - just a quick note. I saw you made a load of changes to dates in footballer players' articles at the moment, most of them good. However, although I think it is a good idea to change standalone years to seasons, e.g. "x won an FA Cup in 1998" → "x won an FA Cup in 1997-98"; when it comes to specifying particular dates, e.g. "y was signed by Arsenal on April 6, 2006", it is probably best to keep the date format exactly like that, instead of piping the year link to the relevant season. That's how the Manual of Style specifies how exact dates should be formatted, and to use football season wikilinks breaks the way users' date preferences are displayed. So it's probably best to leave that kind of date alone.

Sorry for the bother - most of the edits you made were good ones, just alerting you to a minor quibble. Cheers. Qwghlm 22:51, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Eversince

Hi Siyuan, I have come across the article you created on Eversince. Unfortunately I feel that it would probably fail an AfD vote due to it controvening WP:NOT, specifically "Wikipedia is not a publisher of original thought". However, I thought I would give you the opportunity to either move it to your user area,(user:Chensiyuan\Eversince), or convince me that it should be kept before I list it. I really do not like listing articles for deletion when effort has been clearly put into them. Yours, Rje 01:43, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Barnstar

Hey, just a barnstar to know your contributions are valued, for all your edits. At the same time, I encourage you to comment on the various discussion pages as several proposals are going on, as the Singapore article went through its fifth FAC not too long ago. Also, perhaps you want to create a photo gallery? Anyway, keep up the good work!

The Original Barnstar
I, Natalinasmpf award Chensiyuan this barnstar for his valued contributions and images. I voice my thanks for the thousands of edits he has made. Cheers, and stick around! Elle vécut heureuse à jamais (Be eudaimonic!) 23:26, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] RE:Water Margin table

Hi, thanks for the message. When I'm done with adding the tables to every one of the 108 Heroes (you could help too :D ) they'll all appear in the category Water Margin characters. That category is a subcategory of Category:Water Margin, and the "villains", if they were previously in the "Water Margin" category will still be there. I'm not actually deleting the category "Water Margin", just moving the appropriate ones to a subcategory of that.

BTW, if you have a list of all the villains in the novel you can add them to the table. I don't remember all of them (and there isn't a readily-available list like the heroes) so I didn't add them, but I left some space (commented out) in Template:Water Margin characters. And I deliberately made it "characters" so villains could be added too. -- Миборовский U|T|C|M|E|Chugoku Banzai! 03:23, 29 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Amie Huguenard

This was a non-notable biography according to WP:BIO. Being the girlfriend of someone famous doesn't make that person famous in their own right.  (aeropagitica)  (talk)  14:55, 31 May 2006 (UTC)

your deletion was flagrantly arbitrary. did you even watch the documentary, or perform a google? the wiki:bio guide is far from the gospel truth, and even if i did adhere to it, the article could have stood. Chensiyuan 15:00, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
20 seconds is what you took for you to delete an article without blinking. i have been waiting for more than 5 minutes for a reply. this does not look right. Chensiyuan 15:06, 31 May 2006 (UTC)

Not arbitrary - WP:BIO#Deceased_people asks "Has the person made a widely recognized contribution that is part of the enduring historical record in the specific field?" This is something that the article doesn't answer. Your question to me predicates knowledge of the subject. The article should provide the information in order that an understanding of the individual's notable status doesn't rest on also having seen a documentary. If the facts in the article are present and complete then the question need not arise and notability will be clear from the biographical details.  (aeropagitica)  (talk)  15:08, 31 May 2006 (UTC)

it is people like you who believe in your own hype that many wikipedians, seasoned ones or new, find frustrating to contribute to anything. the article doesn't answer everything the guidelines dictate, simply because the writing of one is an ongoing process. it is unrealistic to expect a single person to complete the writing of a full article in one seating. Chensiyuan 15:13, 31 May 2006 (UTC)

My motivation is not egotistical, it was merely an answer to the above question posed in WP:BIO. I agree that to expect a full biography in one terminal session is an unrealistic objective. That is why Sandboxes exist or are created, in order to preserve articles-in-progress from deletion until they are released. Your twenty-second comment above did not demonstrate my arbitrary or mercenary behaviour, rather it is indicative of the time required to read the article-as-presented.  (aeropagitica)  (talk)  15:23, 31 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Ashley Cole

Thanks for telling me about that apps and goal thing, I didn't know :) I deleted the England Squad- 2006 World Cup box because the World Cup is over. Otherwise, why not add the England Squad- 2002 World Cup or England Squad- Euro 2004 etc etc? I guess I should have noted why, but I thought it was kinda obvious. Again, thanks for telling me. --Ealgian 23:09, 17 July 2006 (UTC)Ealgian

[edit] User:Anti-christ has been warned

The comments left by User:Anti-christ have been deleted on the Lin Chong page. Earlier today I sent an email to the administrators about his misconduct and they wrote me back saying he had been given a warning. I honestly believe he should be blocked from editing altogether and his account should be deleted. But I'm not an administrator. [edit] Rosicky

Considering you add "Arsenal Statistics" how about doing some of the hard work and add in the Dortmund and Sparta Prague statistics too instead of leaving someone else do the hard work Niall123 21:53, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

not sure what you're talking about - i've been responsible for putting up stats for almost all the contemporary arsenal players, some dating back to 1995-96. i can't put up stats for their previous careers with other clubs because such stats are not easily available or they can't quite be verified. hence only arsenal stats are provided. your comment is rude and redundant. Not sure how to reply to a private message, so apologies for doing it this way. "It also cements Singapore's place as one the modern world's most sexist nations, as it cannot be applied to women or girls." Is blatantly true. What's the point? Surely it should be pointed out.

[edit] Upload your pics to Commons

Hello, please upload your pictures to Wikimedia Commons, a shared media (image and audio) repository of Wikimedia, it's advisable to upload self-taken pictures to Commons, and can be used on all Wikimedia wikis. I can help you do it as part of my transwiki project, if you give me the green light, I will go ahead. And do upload there in future. Thanks. --Terence Ong (T | C) 08:26, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] GFDL images go to here

It is strongly discouraged to upload images to Wikipedia if they are your own. If they are your own, please from now on, upload them to Wikimedia Commons. Just register an account and transwiki them by re-uploading them over there. There you can sort them into galleries and categorise them. Thanks for your cooperation. You have a nice set of pictures, and there you can let it be used on ALL Wikimedia projects such as zhwiki, dewiki, meta-wiki, wikinews, wikibooks, frwiki etc. Please do transwiki them and upload any other images straight to Commons. --Terence Ong (C | R) 07:02, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

Oh yes, would you mind not uploading images with names like Image:CIMG2631.JPG, its strongly discouraged and is hard to know the content of the image. When doing the transwiki and also when uploading new ones, do rename it to the content of the pic. Thanks for your cooperation. BTW, in March (10 or 11), there's a meetup. See here, though its more or less in planning stage. --Terence Ong (C | R) 07:12, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Your warning to User_talk:203.167.144.9

Hi, and thanks for fighting vandals on Wikipedia! But please remember that you should use the warning templates provided in Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace. I've fixed your warning on User_talk:203.167.144.9 ^_^ ShakingSpirittalk 11:29, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

Hello Chensiyuan! Just reminding you that you should always substitute your warning messages by using {{subst:test}} format when using the warning templates. This reduces the server load. I've fixed your warnings for User_talk:Skypurevis. Keep up the good work fighting vandalism. --phenzTalk 06:45, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Please use edit summaries

Hello. Please be courteous to other editors and use edit summaries when updating articles. The Mathbot tool shows your usage of edit summaries to be very low:

Edit summary usage for Chensiyuan: 19% for major edits and 76% for minor edits. Based on the last 150 major and 150 minor edits in the article namespace.

Using edit summaries helps other editors quickly understand your edits, which is especially useful when you make changes to articles that are on others' watchlists. Thanks and happy editing! --Kralizec! (talk) 18:09, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Your edit to User talk:Bobgat

Re: this edit -- let it go... I don't agree with him either (especially when my nationality situation is the same as Steve Nash but he's trying to tell me I don't know my own nationality), but I don't think we're going to convince him. He seems to be trying to contradict the dictionary meaning of nationality (which is, and I quote, "nationality: n. the fact of being a citizen of a particular nation") without any good evidence. No sense in trying to argue the point when he's doing that. -→Buchanan-Hermit/?! 15:35, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
