Five Pillars of Wikipedia
Float around for awhile until you find something that tickles your fancy. One easy way to do this is to hit the random page button in the navigation bar to the left. There are also many great committees and groups that focus on particular jobs. My personal favorite stomping grounds are Wikipedia:Translation into English and Wikipedia:Cleanup for sloppy articles. Finally, the Wikimedia Foundation has several other wiki projects that you might enjoy.
There are a few crucial points to keep in mind when editing. Be civil with users, strive to maintain a neutral point of view, verify your information, and show good etiquette like signing your comments with four tildes like this: ~~~~ If you have any more questions, always feel free to ask me anything on my talk page or ask the true experts at Wikipedia:Help desk. Again, welcome! -- Draeco 02:57, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] List of English words of Spanish origin
Hi,
I noticed that you removed embarrass from the list of English words of Spanish origin. However, it is from Spanish via French. The word sarabande that you added took a similar route.
Regards,
Primetime 06:08, 15 March 2006 (UTC)
- Right. It came into Spanish possibly from Portuguese.[1] But, then again, most Spanish words are from another language (e.g., Latin, Arabic, Celtic, etc.). I wrote an article about the Spanish word (see Embarazado). The fact is that a majority of eymologists believe it came from French, then Spanish, then Portuguese, then Celtic. Most of the words on the list came into Spanish from another language.--Primetime 07:06, 15 March 2006 (UTC)
- I don't see why the definition should be deleted, as it technically is from both languages. The word bodega that you added is originally from the Latin apotheca, "storehouse". I'm going to go ahead and re-insert the word.--Primetime 07:25, 15 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] License tagging for Image:Venedig.gif
Thanks for uploading Image:Venedig.gif. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 11:08, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Turkey
I appreciate your enthusiasm in editing the Turkey article, but the figures you keep inserting into the article happen to be those for the previous year. See link here for data--Kilhan 21:23, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Allempires.com
Blogs, social networking sites (such as MySpace) and forums should generally not be linked to. However, there are exceptions, such as in cases where the article is about, or closely related to, the website itself, or where the website is of a particularly high standard.
As such, allempires.com as a forum on history is not really a good link for wikipedia. The forum is also not even specifically about the concept of empires, as stated in the website's FAQ, which makes it especially inappropriate for Empire. I won't remove it again, as that would violate WP:3RR, but I strongly urge you to reconsider simply adding it. If you feel that there's reason to make an exception in this case, please bring it up at Talk:Empire and see what the opinions of other editors are first. siafu 03:29, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
- Please do not add commercial links or links to your own private websites to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or a mere collection of external links. You are, however, encouraged to add content instead of links to the encyclopedia. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. See the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thanks. [edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Venedig.gif
Thanks for uploading Image:Venedig.gif. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).
The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}
.
Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. BrownCow • (how now?) 21:25, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
