Creation
Should this portal be added to Wikipedia:Wikiportals, or should that wait until it is officially "ready"? Cjpuffin 01:02, 13 July 2005 (UTC)
- It's already in the "under construction" section of that page. — Bcat (talk | email) 01:29, 13 July 2005 (UTC)

- Ok, missed that. I also edited the main page in the improper way, writing text right there on the portal instead of linking to sub-pages. Trevor macinnis raked me over the coals, and I fixed it. I hope it is set up properly again now. Cjpuffin 01:56, 13 July 2005 (UTC)
Well, I filled in the quotes and got some real did-you-knows going. All the existing portal windows are full. Do you think we're ready to officially open yet? Do we need a different featured article or anything? Cjpuffin 06:10, 14 July 2005 (UTC)
- Yeah, it looks ready. Tomorrow, I'll add it to the list of complete portals and post something at the chess project. (Or you could do it sooner. I don't have time to edit now.) — Bcat (talk | email) 22:52, 15 July 2005 (UTC)

Feature selection
Is there some accepted procedure for choosing what and when for the featured articles and pictures and so forth? I have tried to pick good ones, but I'm curious if others have different ideas as to what should be featured. Also, I created an archive page for the pictures, since I changed the featured one already. Does the format of that seem OK? If so I will replicated it for the other sections. Anyone out there other than Bcat and me? Cjpuffin 12:52, 19 July 2005 (UTC)
- Format for archived pictures look good for now. I think it is already time to update also featured article. Some suggestions: Xiangqi, Shogi, Chess problem, Anatoly Karpov. Andreas Kaufmann 16:02, 19 July 2005 (UTC)

- Agreed, it looks good. How about having a straw poll every few days to pick new features? — Bcat (talk | email) 16:57, 19 July 2005 (UTC)

- Sounds good, Bcat. I rotated all the features and made the archive pages. Should we have a special page for feature nominations? Cjpuffin 12:53, 20 July 2005 (UTC)

- Looks good. Should it be linked to from the main page? Also, it seems like only one week per feature is a bit rushed, though. Cjpuffin 14:59, 23 July 2005 (UTC)

Updates
OK, I cycled all the features. Does anybody want to update the did you knows, the quotes, or the news? (We probably don't need to archive these.) — Bcat (talk • email) 01:04, 9 August 2005 (UTC)
Wikibook Chess
All chess enthusiasts come help me with the Chess wikibook! I definitely dont have the time to enter everything on my own, so if we all collaborate, maybe we can divide the tasks and get Chess to be the best Wikibook, not cooking! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 209.12.77.226 (talk • contribs) 14:16, 19 August 2005. I'm going to establish an account in a little bit, I was accessing before from my workplace.
- Note especially the Opening Theory section of the Chess Wikibook. ThreeE 22:54, 20 August 2005 (UTC)
Featured game?
It appeared to me that a Featured game would fit perfectly into a chess portal. Unfortunately we only have 11 games in the Category:Chess games. Should we go ahead and create the section anyway? It could be removed from the portal when there are no games left or we could just cycle the games. --ZeroOne 14:44, 28 August 2005 (UTC)
- Well, I went ahead and created it. Let me know what you think. --ZeroOne 15:29, 29 August 2005 (UTC)
Is there anybody out there?
Went ahead and put in the next featured player and just picked a new featured article without waiting for a vote (they were very stale). Interest appears to have waned... Cjpuffin 17:06, 24 December 2005 (UTC)
- I updated the news section but am unsure what to do about old items. Do they get deleted or does the news section keep getting longer and longer ? Anybody ? No Guru 17:01, 11 January 2006 (UTC)
I've also updated the featured game and archived the old one. No Guru 17:18, 11 January 2006 (UTC)

- I think the oldest news items can just be removed (they'll be in the history if anyone really wants the old ones). Cjpuffin 19:33, 12 January 2006 (UTC)
