[edit] About Cheydinhal
Cheydinhal is located in the Nibenay region of Cyrodiil. Due to its proximity to the province of Morrowind (the setting for the Elder Scrolls III) the population is comprised of quite a few Dunmer (Dark Elves) as well as other races of the Elder Scrolls universe. The count of the city is also a Dunmer, further emphisising that a lot of immigration from Morrowind has occurred. Most of its residents come from the middle or upper classes. The city is split into an eastern and western section by a nameless river. On the western side, one can find the local Fighters' Guild and Mages' Guild chapter guildhalls, a beautiful house for sale, multiple shops, Castle Cheydinhal, and a statue of Galerion the Mystic (the founder of the Mages' Guild). On the eastern side is the Great Chapel of Arkay, more residences, and a statue of Arkay, the god of Life and Death. The local ruler is Count Andel Indarys.
[edit] Count Andel Indarys
Veterans to the Elder Scrolls universe will recognize at once that the name Andel Indarys isn't an Imperial name. Count Indarys is a Dunmer and the only non-Imperial noble in the game. That is probably why he is the least popular among the people of Cyrodiil. No one knows why Uriel Septim appointed him, but the Empire stands behind its late leader's decision. His wife, Llathasa Indarys was found brutaly murdered. This might have been the Dark Brotherhood but it is never confirmed.
[edit] Farwil Indarys
Count Indarys is the only noble to have a son, however. Farwil Indarys is his young adventurous heir who often gets in way over his head. In the game's main questline, the protagonist may choose to seek allies for the distressed city of Bruma. If he/she so choses to do so, they must close an Oblivion gate that has opened outside Cheydinhal. As it turns out, Farwil has already entered the gate with his fellow all-talk, no-action Knights of the Thorn and hasn't been heard from since. The worried count sends you to find his son. You find evidence of the Knight's incompetence almost immediately. Almost at your feet after stepping through the Gate is the body of a slain Knight. You find him at the bottom of a large hill in Oblivion, still alive. You must then escort him through the gate world and close it. If Farwil survives, the protagonist is inducted into the Knights of the Thorn. If not, then he recives a small bit of gold for his troubles. Either way, Count Indarys will send aid to Bruma.
[edit] The Secret Sanctuary
On the eastern section of Cheydinhal lies a mysterious, boarded-up old house. Few know of what actually lies inside. It turns out that it is a Sanctuary for the secret organization the Dark Brotherhood. They are a league of assassins. who have been banned from practicing their trade openly. Led by their Black Hand, the Dark Brotherhood has sent terror throughout the Empire. But what is more shocking is the accusations from some of the Brotherhood members that Count Indarys knows about the Sanctuary. However, the Brothehood has successfully bullied and cajoled the Count into remaining silent.
A house available for purchase costs 15,000 gold.
Horses cost 5,000 gold.
