Chester McBadBat is a character in the animated series, The Fairly OddParents, one of main character Timmy Turner's two best friends. His last name is quite appropriate, as he and his dad, Bucky McBadBat, are very bad at baseball. Chester takes shame in his bad luck in the sport, but unlike his dad, he doesn't wear a bag over his face.

Chester lives in a trailer park with a working class family (may be a parody of stereotypical trailer hicks), and in The Jimmy/Timmy Power Hour special, we find out he is actually in danger of losing his house ("...because they can't take your home from you if it's on the move!"). To keep from being caught, he equipped his house with jet packs as part of a science fair project. He apparently lives in California as shown by a zoom sequence in Fairy Idol. He has braces, which he will keep until age 30 (assuming he's now 10). The braces sometimes seem to have mechanical devices and things inside them, sometimes telescoping out to several times larger than Chester himself. However, it is quite odd that Chester wears braces, particularly such high-tech ones, when he appears to be so poor. Perhaps in Dimmsdale his family qualified for a medical/dental discount program.

In "The Big Superhero Wish", Chester became a super hero named Matter Muncher Lad (a parody of Matter-Eater Lad). His catchphrase was saying the word "Munch" over and over.

In the recent special "Fairy Idol," Chester is temporarily master, then godchild, to Norm the Genie. In the episode, he uncovers Norm's evil plan and apparently finds out about Timmy having Cosmo and Wanda; while it is possible that his mind was erased at the end of the episode, this is never really definitively answered, so it is possible he still knows about Timmy having godparents.

He was played by Frankie Muniz in the first episodes of the show, before Jason Marsden replaced Muniz.

[edit] Personality

Chester could be considered a foil to Timmy's other best friend, A.J., as Chester is poor and not particularly bright, while A.J. is rich and a genius. Chester is generally less sensible than A.J., and more inclined to begin shouting random comments when upset. As seen in "The Big Scoop," they seem to spend time together alone while Timmy is off doing godparent-related things.

Chester usually seems optimistic, and doesn't seem to mind his meager living conditions; however, it is interesting to note that apparently, Chester's life is unpleasant enough to allow him to get fairy godparents. In "It's a Wishful Life," Timmy wishes that he was never born, and as a result, Chester is Cosmos and Wanda's godchild (arguably implying that Timmy is the only reason he is not unhappy enough to receive fairies); in "Fairy Idol," Norm (who has been made a godparent) is assigned to him, as he is the most miserable child on Earth at the time (the result of his father being arrested by the IRS and being haunted by banjoes). He is also apparently very generous; in both episodes, he uses his magical abilities to help others, something Timmy almost never does. (It should be noted that in "Fairy Idol" this leads to mass global crisis, but in his defense, Chester meant well by altering the climatic forces of the world)

[edit] Trivia

  • The first time his dad's face is shown is in the episode where Chester becomes good at baseball.
  • The second and final time Bucky McBadbat's face is shown is in Fairy Idol.
  • Chester was born sometime in 1992.
  • Chester's braces have been used a lot in the cartoon.
  • Chester actually received fairies twice, though both realities in which he received them were cancelled out. He received Cosmo & Wanda as his fairy godparents in an episode where Timmy saw how life would be like had he never existed. He received Norm the Genie as a fairy godparent in Fairy Idol, but after Norm quit, Chester used his last Genie wish with Norm to wish that none of this had happened in act of sacrifice for his friend Timmy.
  • In Scary GodParents, Chester reveals that he was already held back when Mrs. Waxleplax told him he'd be held back if they TP'd her house, which means he is a year older than Timmy and AJ.
  • In Fairy Idol, Chester is seen sitting on his bed, but with posters of Chip Skylark and teeth with the word "Smile." This is interesting because Chester has such bad teeth, but has posters that encourage good teeth habits.
  • According to Channel Chasers, Chester has a obsession with cheese.
