Chembur is a suburb of Mumbai, India, as well as a railway station on the Harbour Line of the Mumbai Suburban Railway. It is a major transportation hub.

Originally a picnic-spot on the north-eastern outskirts of Mumbai, Chembur is now considered a central suburb. The first building in Chembur is the 'Raote House' in Chembur's Gaothan near 10th road, developed in 1928.

Major arteries originate at Chembur and lead to Navi Mumbai (new Bombay), Ghatkopar, Sion, Kurla and Mulund-Thane. The Central Railway’s Harbour Line, services Chembur.
Gas Chamber of Mumbai: Because of the large number of refineries , fertilizer plants and a TATA Electric thermal power plant in the area ; Chembur's air quality was poor in the early 80's and right after the bhopal tragedy , Chembur was nicknamed the gas chamber of mumbai. Starting out as an industrial area, Chembur is now a largely residential suburb. Old bungalows and villas are making way for high-rise apartments. Chembur has a cosmopolitan population that is dominated by Keralites, Tamilians, Punjabis, Sindhis and Gujaratis.
Many past and current Bollywood celebrities like Raj Kapoor,Ashok Kumar, Om Prakash, Shilpa Shetty, Anil Kapoor, Malaika Arora, Shankar Mahadevan and Vidya Balan reside or resided in Chembur.
Anushakti Nagar is the residential colony of Bhabha Atomic Research Center. Shell Colony, Sahakar Nagar, Subhash Nagar is the residential colony in Chembur

Chembur is an important railway station on The Mumbai Subarban Railway's Harbour line. It is the 13th Station from Mumbai CST and 18 kilometers by train.
