Chem-Mod
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Chem-Mod is a corporation that has developed the Chem-Mod technology. Chem-Mod uses a system of two sorbents: a liquid that oxidizes or traps mercury on its surface, and a powder that captures SO2 and heavy metals. In addition to being more effective, its cost is reported to be significantly less than that of conventional scrubbers, which are expected to be its primary commercial competitor. Chem-Mod has been proven to reduce up to 98% of baseline mercury emissions from coal-fired power plants and 75% of baseline sulfur emissions (according to their website).
Spencer Abraham, the former Secretary of Energy, is listed as an advisor and indirect equity holder of Chem-Mod.
