Cheggit
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Cheggit is a BitTorrent web site run by p2p (a former admin of Empornium), focused on the sharing of pornographic media files. It went public in July of 2006 and reached 20,000 users within the first day. As of October 6, 2006, there is a registration limit of 120,000 users. This limit is based on flagging performance issues, and will be removed once the site is optimized for more usage.
On July 5, 2006, several former admins of Empornium revealed a new torrent site named Cheggit in the empornium irc channel. It was started because of the changes made to Empornium by TargetPoint that many users didn't feel suited the type of place Empornium was. In particular, registration in Cheggit is free.
The site was opened to the public at around midnight July 20, 2006. Within 12 hours it had already obtained 10,000 registered members and 1000 torrents posted.
It appeared from the Google cache of http://cheggit.net/ that Cheggit was a small BitTorrent community that had already partially broken off from Empornium.
Cheggit means "Check it" as in "I will check it out," a substitute for the previous motto of "I will dl and have a look."
The new site includes an integrated forum and wiki, as well as a new type of search engine that relies on tags. The usage of tags replaces and improves upon the concept of categories such that a user can refine their search by typing in a combination of genres for a particular subgenre that is tailor made for their preference(s). This is provided that the individual who posted was explicit in their tag descriptions.
On September 20, 2006 it was announced that the site would not improve much from its initial release in favor of a completely renovation of the site code. The new site will be built using the Django framework. Some common features like avatars, private messages as well as unique features like reputation, the karma system, and gangs were not included in the initial release of cheggit. The possible inclusion of these features will have to wait until the new version of the site is released.
