Chefette
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Chefette Restaurants is the largest Barbados-based fast-food chain. Currently operating throughout the island in 14 locations, "Chef-ette" for short is known especially for its prepared chicken meals as well as a local curried-'meat + vegetable' rollups locally known as Roti. Chefette was founded by a Trinidadian-Syrian businessman named Assad John Haloute, who had migrated to Barbados in 1971, the following year he opened the first Chefette Restaurant located at Fontabelle, St. Michael. As the success of the chain grew over the next 3 dacades the restaurant chain continued its expansion.
Several of the outlets push the theme of being a "family restaurant" by constructing outdoor play areas for children similar to other major international chains such as McDonalds.
Although overall international restaurant chains lack a sense of presence in Barbados, Chefette's chief competitor is widely considered to be United States-based KFC, which also has several chicken restaurant eateries located around Barbados as well.
