[edit] Fourteenmile Creek
The map on the Charlestown State Park site [1] lists the name as "Fourteenmile Creek" and a separate map I looked at did as well. So, since there's evidence for that spelling, I'm changing it back. Now, if different maps show it differently, we'll have to square it somehow. Stevie is the man! Talk • Work 01:01, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
An Indiana historical marker by the entrance shows this:
There is a space, and I think this is pretty official, seeing as how the state of Indiana used this.--Bedford 01:13, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
- Markers can be wrong, of course (human beings made them). I've seen "Fourteenmile Creek" on two separate maps, and I've yet to see it spelled "Fourteen Mile Creek" on any. We need to expand our sources and see which one is predominant. Stevie is the man! Talk • Work 01:21, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
I'll see what I can find. We'd want to get the exact name before I can write an article on it.--Bedford 01:24, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
- I'm not having much luck finding good sources for this, but it is spelled "Fourteen Mile Creek" in the "Two Hundred Years at the Falls of the Ohio" book by George Yater. Stevie is the man! Talk • Work 02:29, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
- The book A Brief Informal History of Clark County, Indiana (1985) by Gerald Haffner, a former professor at IUS, has it as "Fourteen Mile Creek".--Bedford 03:07, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
- Looks like a standoff between 1) maps, and 2) books and historical markers. I guess we could side with the authors, since at least we could provide book references for support. And the sign image helps too. I'll switch all the links back, if there is no objection. Stevie is the man! Talk • Work 03:35, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
- Baird's also has "Fourteen Mile Creek", if that helps. I have no problems with you putting back the space, and since we're the only one's editting this thing ;-) --Bedford 03:42, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
You are going to love this. A history of Tunnel Mill, written in 2005, has it as "Fourteen-Mile Creek". Note the hyphen. LOL. --Bedford 17:18, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
