[edit] Not a speedy

I was going to speedy this when I first saw it, assuming it was vanity. But, allmusic knows about this guy. So he's real, and possibly meets WP:MUSIC. The article as it stands is bad, sure, but it may be better fixing than deleting. Friday (talk) 05:02, 12 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Not an article, a eulogy

This needs a serious dose of moderation. As it stands the article is almost entirely eulogising Chali 2na.

I'm this article's author, and I understand why you've taken issue with what I've done. I've overloaded this article with facts and many of the sentences are cumbersome. What I've now done, however, is edit out adjectives that overtly praise 2na. I've left in tidbits about his being "friends with" other rappers and about his "near-death experience", because I don't percieve that to be positive spin so much as obsessive chronicling of information. He has actually said these things/done these things/worked with these people, and I imagine there's nothing wrong with incredibly detailed articles on people who arguably don't warrant them as long as the article conforms to the neutral-POV policy.

I'd rather keep the ridiculously specific details in if I can help it. But if someone believes there's more work to be done, or that I haven't sufficiently neutralized the POV, then if they would please respond as to what they think I should do, I'd appreciate it.

i think that you need to neutralize sentences that sound like this:

  • "His voice, a deep basso profondo, is one of the most recognizable in all of hip-hop." unless there is a source, this is more of a praise of 2na than a fact. you might say something like "His voice is a distinct basso profondo" or something like that.
  • "Chali 2na's flow is one of hip-hop's fastest." same comment here.
  • "... and maintains his friendships with them." this sounds (to me) like speculation.

[edit] ...as opposed to seeing

"...as opposed to seeing the seeming injustice of the occurrence as a reason to rail against Him or realizing the reason his life was saved was a product of science and medicine, not the supernatural."

This is a whole lot of words that have little to do with 2na, and have everything to do with the authors beliefs on religion (beliefs that I share with the author). Even so, I believe that sentence should be removed...this article is no place for philosophical balldookery.

[edit] His Voice

Well to be completely honest, i've been listening to rap music for 2-3 years, and my friends who have been listening to it for even longer, all know exactly which rapper is on the track when they hear Chalis voice, so ya it's a fact?

[edit] Pluralist?

How can he be both a devout Muslim and a religious pluralist?

[edit] Basso-Profundo? You must be kidding!

Who said that Chali 2na is a basso-profundo?! There is no way he is a basso profundo! simply no way! Do you know what a basso-profundo is? A basso profundo is a term used only in opera! It is a term that reffers to a singer, an opera singer that has a very deep and resonant voice. It may reach the D, C or even B flat below the bass clef, but is most distinguished by its dark and cavernous timbre. A rapper like this man cannot be reffered to as basso profundo! A Basso profundo can only be clasified in Classical music and it is something that might take years to do! Not because he has a very low speaking voice does it mean he is an actual basso-profundo. These are very very rare, and to put this in an encyclopedic article would need a very reliable citations and should therefore be eliminated, which is why I did!...Besides, even if he does have a bass speaking voice it doesn't mean he is an actual bass! I reverted the innacurate information for something more objective. Kiske 01:00, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Solo Album

The article says his solo album was scheduled for release in Spring 2006, and it's inarguably missed that deadline--I'm thinking they may have delayed it to ride the publicity of the new J5 album, but is there any news at all regarding this? --63.249.103.230 03:53, 19 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Removed section...

"Chali 2na's flow is one of hip-hop's fastest. He is the only member of the group to pay consistent attention to literary techniques: his verses make heavy use of internal rhyme schemes in the style pioneered by Rakim, and frequently uses assonance, meter, alliteration, phonemes, and allusions to obscure minutiae of popular culture."

Seemed to me to be pretty subjective. Using internal rhymes, assonance, alliteration and allusions aren't very distinctive traits. And using meter and phonemes?
