[edit] VCL Link

Do we really want a link to the VCL in this article? I mean, it's about as useful as linking to Geocities and saying "there are a number of pages about chakats on Geocities." It looks like shameless link advertising to me. Almafeta 20:24, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Encyclopedic

How exactly is this encyclopedic and not some sort of cruft? I've put a number of the -taur articles up for deletion, including felitaur, why shouldn't this article follow? -- Thesquire (talk - contribs) 09:05, 4 January 2006 (UTC)

Because there is more to say to Chakat than only its definition. There is history behind it, and its name doesn't say everything about its nature. I found that article informative, at least. - Ekevu (talk) 11:24, 4 January 2006 (UTC)

This topic can be shortened only mildy and placed into the taur article. It would have much more significance there.

[edit] Is Not Suitable for Wikipedia?/Deletion

The reason given for the deletion suggestion is groundless. If there's an article for Vulcans then this is just as relevant.

I agree, and I'd also like to add that the person that put the 'deletion' up is not a 'user' of Wikipedia, therefore I question the motive of 80.229.216.34 If wikipedia can have articles on Porn stars and Comic book heros, their is a place for a chakat article, for sure. I'm going to remove the Prod tag because I believe the tag has been placed in bad faith; Isn't the reasoning supposted to be posted on the talk page in detail anyways? --Honeymane 22:46, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
It's not the same as Vulcans. It's better to compare them to Ogryn perhaps. Vulcans are fairly well known outside of their created media, while Chakats..and Ogryn are not. Ogryn are a part of Warhammer 40,000 Imperial Guard Armies, while Chakats are...created by a guy who's a part of a minority subculture. While I think it'd be a good addition to other articles on Furrydom, I am not quite sure it warrants it's own article. - SecondTalon

[edit] D&D connection?

"Chakats have been used as source material for D&D roleplaying wemic creatures. Mr Doove was interviewed for this purpose" The linked article states that " I was totally unaware of the existence of wemics or liontaurs at the time that I created the Chakat species." Outside of isolated D&D groups, I cannot see anyone seriously using any information on the Chakat to roleplay Wemics. Any connection is coincidental, and this statement should be removed. -SecondTalon

  • It is relevant information backed up by easily checkable reference, and proves that chakats are known about outside of furry interest groups. There isn't a single wikipedia guideline you can cite to excuse delete it. The sentence will stay, though if you believe it could be worded better you're welcome to rewrite it.ANTIcarrot 02:33, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
Okay. Give me a reference beyond the one I cited where the creator said there was no connection. All I can find using the google keywords of Chakat D&D are Cayzle's Wemic Site which mentions Chakats a time or two, but mostly to describe the differences between Wemics and Chakats, and RPG Gateway which mentions them as a race in a Star Trek online game. Now, Cayzle's site is the most relative to this, but at best, there's a blurb about how Chakats are covered in fur and Wemics are not, and two links on the link pages (One in art, one in stories). I cannot find any information that gives the information needed to make a Dungeons and Dragons Chakat character, only that they are different from Wemics. -SecondTalon
Not to mention that at no point in the cited interview does Mr. Doove make any mention at all of a standard way of using Chakat material as a basis for Wemics. Most conversions he seems unhappy with and states how they make poor race choices for roleplaying games in general, not D&D specifically. I went ahead and added a "likely" to the sentence, as other than his statement of seeing a few conversions, I have found no details on Chakats in Dungeons and Dragons.-SecondTalon
Well ignoring the fact that this is not a reliable source and these statements can't be verified the assertion that the creator has "heard of" a couple people playing Chakats in a D&D game is not relavent or notable no matter how one looks at it. This is ridiculous; you're really reaching here. Also, Wikipedia is not the place for speculation and I've edited the entry accordingly. NeoFreak 17:19, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
