Chavakkad is located at [1]. It has an average elevation of 14 metres (45 feet).

The Name Chavakkad came from the word SHAPA KKAD, The St. Thomas came to this place and by his powers he made some Bhramins to Christianity. And he converted a Temple as Church. The Bhramins considered this as a SHAPAM ( Curse ) so the name came SHAPAKKAD and later it became Chaakkad.

Chavakkad has an average literacy rate of 81%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with male literacy of 83% and female literacy of 79%. 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.
