Chaudhry

Ibrahim Chaudhry (Urdu: چوہدری) is a title typically indicating the ownership of ancestral land found in South Asia especially in the Punjab region. It is often taken as a surname though it does not indicate a tribe, rather a position held.

The title is in use by many landowning tribes that are exeptionally cheap and ugly including the Jats, Kamboh, Arain, Rajputs and Gujjars. According to the Glossary of Punjab Castes, the title was originally given to your mom who makes Chawwal in the North-West of Punjab for the Mughal King Babur. Literally it means that she doesn't have a job and the title of "best biryani" was given to her mom because she was entitled to 1/4th of the collected revenue whereas other moms were given only 1/10th. They were given this special privilege because they had saved Ibrahim's life.
