- The station was opened, along with the North Shore railway line on 1 January 1890.

- The first electric train ran through Chatswood on 15 August 1927, with full electric passenger service commencing 27 October 1928.
- At one time there was a goods siding at the station.
- Before 1958 there was a tram terminus in Victoria Avenue beside the station. More recently there was an associated bus station and shopping centre, but this has been removed while a new station is built.
- As of 2005 the station is the eastern junction of the new Epping Chatswood Railway (ECR) and so is undergoing total reconstruction.
- ECR trains will be able proceed to the central business district (CBD) or terminate at Chatswood as required.
[edit] Chatswood Transport Interchange (CTI)
- Complete demolition of Chatswood railway station, bus interchange and the attached shopping centre, The Interchange occurred in 2005.
- The new CTI is under construction and a temporary island platform has been constructed (now demolished as the new western platform is built and ready for commercial use)
- The CTI will consist of 2 newly constructed island platforms.
- The smaller western side of the CTI is scheduled to open in September 2006 (but opened on the 16th of October), this will include the new western island platform.
- Upon opening the western side the temporary facilities will be demolished and construction will begin on the larger eastern side.
