Chateau Lascombes
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Château Lascombes is a winery in Margaux in Bordeaux. The château was classified as one of fifteen Second Growths (Deuxièmes Crus) in the Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855 (today there are only 14 Second Growths, with Château Mouton-Rothschild being reclassified as a First Growth). As such, its wine is among the most prestigious and expensive in all of France.
[edit] History
It was purchased by Alexis Lichine and a syndicate in 1951. At the same time, Lichine also purchased Château Prieurè-Lichine, also in Margaux. Lichine improved the vineyards through his expertise and commitment. In 2001, the estate was purchased for $467 million by Capitol Colony, an American pension group.
At the Ottawa Wine Tasting of 2005, the 2000 vintage competed against 17 other wines where it was judged to place third.
