Chase for the Nextel Cup

The point system used in NASCAR's top division, the Nextel Cup Series. In which, after 26 races, the top 10 drivers or those drivers within 400 points of the leader advance to contend for the points championship and points are reset. This is NASCAR's version of a playoff system. 10 races to see who is the Nextel Cup Series Champion. Also, drivers who are tied at the 10th spot after 26 races will automatically make the Chase for the Nextel Cup, regardless of point differential to leader. This system was adopted by NASCAR in 2004 with Kurt Busch taking home the trophy and in 2005, Tony Stewart took home the trophy.
