Chartered Institute of Wastes Management

The Chartered Institute of Wastes Management (CIWM) is the professional organisation of professionals in the Waste Management Industry in the United Kingdom, but also has members in the Republic of Ireland. The CIWM has its head quarters in Northampton and has ten regional centres throughout England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

The main publication of the CIWM is the recently renamed CIWM Journal. The CIWM holds an annual exhibition in Paignton, Devon which is the world's largest exhibition dedicated to waste management.

The objectives of the CIWM are:

  • Advancing the scientific, technical and practical aspects of wastes management for the safeguarding of the environment
  • Promoting education, training, research and the dissemination of knowledge in all matters of wastes management
  • Striving to achieve and maintain the highest standards of practice, competence and conduct by all its members.
