Chart Wars is a series of freeware simulation games concerned with the music Industry. The Chart Wars games place the player in the role of the head of a record company. The original game was designed and programmed by Rob Cooper, using Turbo Pascal, in 2001. Although Cooper developed the game on his own, the game was released under the company name Osiris Games in order to appear more professional. The original game was criticised due to its poor interface but was still considered by gamers to be a landmark in the text-sim market. The second game went into production soon after the original game's release but was scrapped due to the memory restrictions of Pascal not allowing the game to incorporate all the desired features.

[edit] Chart Wars 3

Chart Wars 3 (so named as to avoid confusion with the never released Chart Wars 2) was started from scratch using Visual Basic 6. Chart Wars 3 features an enhanced system. Turns pass by days instead of weeks. Navigation through main menus has been streamlined to help the player navigate more easily through the game itself. Artists appear more human by pursuing personal lives in which they can form relationships, get married, acquire wealth etc. Similarly artists are capable of suffering from drug abuse and other crises, and will increasingly rely on the player's management in order to maintain their career. New visual features allow the use of photopacks, although, due to copyright issues the only photo shipped with the game was that of Montreal based Singer-Songwriter and fan of the game Daniel Ghattas. The game was released in 2004.

[edit] Chart Wars: Rise to Stardom

Chart Wars Rise to Stardom is a new approach to the Chart Wars universe. Rather than running a record label, the player takes the role of a musician. Players are free to pursue their career how they wish, choosing to go solo or join a band. The player must face and overcome the various obstacles which would face a real life artist in order to succeed. The game is currently still in development and no release date has been set. More than 16,000 lines of code have been written thus far. This game will have the biggest database yet, with huge amounts of real-life bands from a wide range of different genres. In addition, the number of venues will be at least twice as many as the game's previous incarnations.
