Charni Road
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Charni Road (Marathi:चर्नी रोड) is a railway station on the Mumbai suburban railway. The main significance of Charni Road station is that it is very near to the Girgaum Chowpatti, a major destination for tourists and south Mumbai residents looking for a peaceful walk on the beach. However, like every place in Mumbai, overcrowding can be a spoiler on most days. It is also important because of the diamond trading indusry located here, mainly in the building "Panchratna" near the railway station. The station derives its name from the fact that grazing lands for cattle and horses were located nearby in earlier days (Charne in Marathi).
