Charley Beresford

Charley Beresford is a Canadian politician. Beresford is the British Columbia New Democratic Party candidate for the riding of Oak Bay-Gordon Head in the 2005 British Columbia general election scheduled for May 17, 2005

Beresford has served two terms as Chair of the Greater Victoria School Board, she was first elected as a trustee in 1996. As a trustee, Charley successfully campaigned to save Inner City School Funds, led the development of a policy to support sexual minority students and families, and managed under large provincial funding cuts to public education.

Beresford has been a member of the City of Victoria's Social Planning and Housing Advisory Committee, Capital Regional Team on Sexually Exploited Youth, Healthy Schools Advisory Committee, Oak Bay Parks and Recreation Commission, Victoria Festival of the Arts, and the Food Access Forum on Capital Regional Food and Agriculture Initiatives Round Table. She worked on the successful campaign to preserve the ecologically-sensitive areas of Mystic Vale and Glencoe Cove. On the Oak Bay-Gordon Head NDP constituency association, she has held a number of executive positions including President. Charley also served as Chair of the BC NDP Women's Rights Committee.

Beresford worked as an advisor to the provincial Ministers of Health, Finance and Women's Equality in the Mike Harcourt government, and as Director of Co-ordination of Agencies, Boards and Commissions for the Province of British Columbia, co-ordinating appointments to various provincial bodies. During her term, she developed a code of conduct for all public appointees.

Beresford was born in Neilburg, Saskatchewan to a CCF family. Her grandfather served as a three term CCF Member of Parliament. She and Chris, her husband of 24 years, have a son and daughter. She holds a diploma in Recreation Management.
