Charlestown Mob
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Charlestown Mob refers to any of several Irish Mob organized crime groups in Charlestown, Massachusetts, which have figured prominently in the history of Boston for much of the 20th century, but was eradicated by Somerville's Winter Hill Gang during the 1960s Irish Gang Wars.
The gang was headed by the McLaughlin Brothers made up of brothers (Bernie, Georgie, and Edward "Punchy" McLaughlin) as well as their associates (also brothers) Stevie and Connie Hughes from Charlestown, Massachusetts. They were involved in the Irish Gang Wars of Boston during the early to mid 1960s against Somerville's "Winter Hill Gang" led by James "Buddy" McLean. The decade long gang war left both Bernie and Punchy dead and Georgie in prison. The Hughes Brothers later suffered almost identical fates, as they were both shot to death in their cars on two separate occasions.
