Charles de Lorencez

Charles Ferdinand Latrille comte de Lorencez (May 23, 1814 - July 16, 1892) was a French Army officer during the 19th century.
Lorencez was born in Paris in a noble family. He studied in the Military academy of Saint-Cyr (1830-1832), graduated as 3rd Lieutenant. He served first in Algeria, promoted Colonel in 1852. In 1855 during the Crimean war, at the Battle of Malakoff, he won the commission of major-general.
Latrille de Lorencez then served during the French intervention in Mexico as Major General and finally during the Franco-Prussian War in 1870.
A disease contracted in Mexico compelled him to retire from active service in 1872. Charles Ferdinand Latrille de Lorencez died on July 16, 1892.
