[edit] College career

Woodson played college football at the University of Michigan. There he was selected as the Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 1995, made the All-America team in 1996, and won the Heisman Trophy in 1997, receiving 282 more voting points than Peyton Manning. He was the first and is still the only primarily defensive player to win the prestigious award. In addition to playing cornerback, he returned punts and occasionally lined up as a wide receiver. In 1997, Woodson led the Michigan Wolverines to an undefeated season and a national championship. He also won the Bronko Nagurski Trophy as the best defensive college player in 1997. Throughout college, Woodson was known for big plays in big moments of a game. As a freshman he had two interceptions against the #2-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes. During his Heisman-winning junior year, he made a spectacular sideline interception against Michigan State, returned a punt for touchdown and made an end-zone interception against Ohio State, and made another end-zone interception against Washington State in the Rose Bowl.

[edit] Oakland Raiders

Woodson declared his eligibility for the NFL Draft following his junior season at Michigan and was selected 4th overall in the 1st round of the 1998 Draft by the Oakland Raiders. After Woodson's first season in the NFL he was named The NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year by the Associated Press. He helped lead the Raiders to the Super Bowl in 2002, where they lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Woodson was named to the All-NFL Team in 1999 and 2001 and was All-Pro from 1998 through 2002.

[edit] Green Bay Packers

On April 26, 2006, Woodson reached a 7-year contract agreement with the Green Bay Packers that could be worth as much as $52.7 million with bonuses and incentives. He will make $10.5 million in the first year of the deal and $18 million over the first three years. He will also receive a $3 million bonus if he is selected for the Pro Bowl in two of the first three years of the contract. [1].

[edit] Trivia

  • Woodson has faced off against Pro Bowl offensive lineman Orlando Pace in prominent rivalries at two levels of football below the NFL. Before squaring off against Pace's Buckeyes in the Michigan-Ohio State rivalry, Woodson played for the Little Giants of Fremont Ross High School where he competed against Pace and the Blue Streaks of Sandusky High School, Ohio's second-oldest high school football rivalry.
  • Footage of his punt return for a touchdown against Ohio State was featured in a highlight reel on the main menu of the video game NCAA Football 06.
