Charles Withers Ravenshaw

Lieutenant Colonel Charles Withers Ravenshaw was born on September 29, 1851, in England. He was the son of Thomas Edward Ravenshaw and Mary Susannah Symonds Ravenshaw. Charles's father was the namesake of Ravenshaw College in Cuttack, Orissa, India. His mother was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Symonds of Worcestershire, England. Ravenshaw was the brother of Lieutenant Herbert Edward Ravenshaw, and Major Harold Alexander Ravenshaw. Charles's grandfather, John Hurdis Ravenshaw, was in the British East India Company. His grandmother, Rose Melley Thuillier, was the daughter of John Thuillier, Baron de Malaperte. Charles was the descendant of William Withers, Lord Mayor of London. Charles married Hannah Barker, of Clapham, Surrey, England, on August 8, 1883. Ravenshaw lived at Nethors Prior, Halstead, Sussex, England. Children of Lt. Colonel and Mrs. Charles Withers Ravenshaw were:

  4. Eileen Birkett Ravenshaw (married John Alexander McCreery)

Ravenshaw was a resident of Nepal from 1902-1905. He gained the rank of Colonel in the service of the Indian Staff Corps.

Charles Withers Ravenshaw died at the age of 84 in 1935.
