Charles W. Whalen, Jr.

Charles William Whalen Jr. (born July 31, 1920) was a U.S. Representative for Ohio's District 3.

Born in Dayton, Ohio, Whalen graduated from Oakwood High School, from the University of Dayton with a degree in business administration in 1942, and from Harvard University Graduate School of Business in 1946. He enlisted in the United States Army during World War II and was discharged as a first lieutenant in 1946.

Whalen was vice president of the Dayton Dress Company from 1946 to 1952, and was a professor of economics and chairman of the department at the University of Dayton from 1962 to 1966. He was a member of the Ohio House of Representatives for three terms, serving 1955 to 1960, and was a state senator for two terms, from 1961 to 1966. He was then elected as a Republican to the Ninetieth and to the five succeeding Congresses in the United States House of Representatives, serving from January 3, 1967 to January 3, 1979. He was not a candidate for reelection in 1978 to the Ninety-sixth Congress. He currently resides in Bethesda, Maryland.
