Charles Sherwood Noble

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Charles Sherwood Noble (1873 - July 5, 1957) was an immigrant to southern Alberta from North Dakota, pushed into bankruptcy by poor harvests and low grain prices.

He invented a minimum disturbance cultivator called the Noble blade, that cuts weed roots beneath the soil surface without turning the soil over, thus reducing topsoil loss due to wind erosion. Because of his contributions to agriculture in southern Alberta, the village of Nobleford was named after him.

Note: large discrepancies among various accounts of his life.
