Charles Portis

Charles Portis (born December 28th, 1933 in El Dorado, Arkansas) is a fiction writer who has been described as "one of the most inventively comic writers of western fiction" 1. His books are comic and inspire cult-like devotion amongst their fans. He has written five novels:
- Norwood (1966)
- True Grit (1968)
- The Dog of the South (1979)
- Masters of Atlantis (1985)
- Gringos (1991)
In May 1996, he published a collection of short fiction and biographical pieces in The Atlantic Monthly, including "A Combination of Jacksons" and "I Don't Talk Service No More" 2.
Portis is reclusive and travels frequently to Mexico.
